I'm using an Action List to select text by key phrase and it's not working.  Why is this not working?

Text in a PDF is complex and there are a lot of things that can go wrong with searching it. It may be something as small as the font contains a space or a tab character.

In general, you can think of a font as just a sequence of pictures. A text line in a PDF is then a sequence of numbers telling Acrobat which of those pictures to show. The pictures themselves don't have an intrinsic meaning - for example, there is nothing saying that the first picture in the font is the letter A, or X, or space for example.

Some fonts have extra information that does convey that meaning. If this extra information is present, then PitStop can use it to know what the text line says. If that information is not present or is incorrect, then the text line is essentially meaningless. This can lead to the "find and replace" action not working on such text.

Because of this, you may need to create Action Lists that have multiple searches or minimized searches. For instance, if you are searching for a string such as this "This is a test", you can search for each of the words separately, and then combine the selections with an AND operator. In this example, you can select text lines containing "text" AND "in" AND "this" AND "font".
